CHAMPIONS CUP Pre-season Invitational 2012 featuring NOBLE PARK at Bulleen Park

This BEST of the BEST Champions Cup is up for grabs for the second year running. Last year was a huge success and if the crowds are any indication it will be much bigger again come Sunday March 18, 2012.
Three Ovals will be used over the course of the day all based at Bulleen Park..with 3 games played simultaneuosly in a round robin series at 11am, 12pm and 1pm with two semi finals played at 2.20pm and the Final at 3.40pm.

The clubs playing off in the Champions Cup are as follows:

  • Southern Football League St. Paul’s Football Club, Div. 1 Premiers 2011
  • Eastern Football League Noble Park Football Club, Div. 1 Premiers 2010, 11

  Modified Rules:

To cater for the large number of teams and participation over one day, the rules and game time allotments are adjusted to provide appropriate scheduling.
Below is a guide that has been formulated to provide maximum game time while avoiding the day becoming too strenuous. The Modified Rules are as follows:

  1. Games to be two 20 – 20 half’s, 5 minutes warm up, 10 minutes half time on ground, 5 minutes finish up on ground (this would allow the next team to have a 5 minutes crossover section to warm up providing 10 actual minutes).
  2. Sections and teams to be adjudged by spectator involvement via bigfooty.com.au with input from leagues and common knowledge.
  3. 3 divisions to be allocated placing ranked teams in 1,4,7, in red division 2,5,8, in grey division and 3,6,9 in white division.
  4. Ladder is to be decided on 1 point per goal and 10 points per win. This will encourage free flowing, potentially high scoring matches and provides higher scoring matches a better chance at playing finals. In the event of a tied ladder we would use a shoot-out from 3 different areas of the ground with 3 designated kickers from each side.
  5. Highest ranked teams from each division will advance through to semi-finals.
  6. The fourth position in the semi-finals will be awarded to the highest ranked second place getter by points total obtained on the day known as the “lucky loser”.

SUNDAY, APRIL 1 – 9 NEWS CHALLENGE
The stage is set for the Nine News Challenge between the EFL and the VAFA!

9 News ChallengeSunday April 1 will see a team selected from the Eastern Football League's divisions one and two take on a side from the VAFA's Premier A and B competitions at Bayswater Oval.

A morning match will also take place between the EFL's divisions three and four and the VAFA's Premier C-D1 grades.

Noble Park coach Mick Fogarty, fresh from the Bulls' back to back premierships in division one, will coach the EFL D1/2 team, while Ringwood's Nick Tennant will be at the helm of the EFL D3/4 side. Nick is well known and respected throughout the EFL as a player and coach, having previously coached East Burwood and Montrose and being a 300 game EFL Life Member.

Make sure to mark the date in your diary as April 1 will no doubt be a cracking day to see the EFL's best take on the VAFA. It will also mark the opening of the new facilities currently being constructed at Bayswater Oval as we mark the end of the EFL's 50th year celebrations.

The matches will support MND Australia which supports sufferers of motor neurone disease and One in Five, an organisation that raises funds for the cause and treatment of mental illness.

Squad details and assistant coaches will be announced in the coming weeks.
